Is this DID?

Postby moecheri » Tue Apr 15, 2014 2:14 pm

Dear All, I am seeking your advise on behaviour that may be seen in DID since I am trying to learn all that I can about it and would appreciate any insight...

have any of you experienced a partner who has DID and many alters but when I speak to different alters, they are all able to remember what happened during a fight? Only on one occasion did my partner open up about his childhood and later he had no recollection that he told me about it, yet everything to do with our breakup he remembers, even when I am speaking to several alters.

he experienced dissociative fugue I think> after the breakup he left me and went to Thailand for 2 weeks and on the weekend of what was meant to be our wedding he went there again for 10 days and when I tried to call him he called me back on viber and tried to convince me that he was in Melbourne!!!

does this sound like behaviour associated with DID?

Hello and welcome.

The DID forum is more active so you might have better luck over there :D.

That being said. Alters can communicate with each other and information can be shared between them, every system is different.

What you described could be attributed to alot of different things, DID being one of them. No one here can diagnose.

Sorry if this is hard to read, I'm kind of choppy tonight.

Best of luck!

[EDIT: I really need to look before I leap. Didn't realize QUITE how old the thread I was resurrecting was. Oops. Ah well, maybe it'll still be useful for somethin]

I can't speak to the fugue part of the issue (just over here visiting to learn), but I can say that from our experience as a DID system, and from those we've known, alters can communicate with one another in some systems more easily than others. But it's certainly possible! Of course, just because one alter can share something with another doesn't mean they want to.

In the instance you described, it makes sense to me, just as an idea, that an alter might very well be less willing to share details about anything unpleasant in the past with either another alter or an outside party, or admit to knowing (fear and anxiety over memories, or feeling involved / complicit in those memories is kinda a big thing for some alters), at any rate. Contrasting that, I'm gonna go ahead and bet that if alters in a system do communicate with each other at all, something like a breakup is going to get talked about in-system a lot. It's both important current info for functioning, AND it's gossip. Not to sound cold, but I just know that stuff gets passed around in our system a lot, so.

I'm sorry for what sounds like a very frustrating time you've had. I wish you luck in the future!

not every system matches some textbook bs. mental health is too grey area. ya a system can have a lack of time loss n memory loss. /:
