Pat
If you feel these side effects of course they are real, I would tell it to who ever prescribed them, and I think you did and I am glad that new thing works for you.

Moramind
If you don’t see any side effects in yourself then there is no reason to change. If you think this drug works for you then that is grate.

If it works then use it.
I think it’s obvious that there is no one medication that cures everyone. People are different. What may not work for her, may works for you. It’s all good as long as each feel happy.

Even if something wouldn't work it's steel person's choice.

Prozac withdrawal feels great

you do know theres a such thing as withdrawal from a drug that can feel good instead of bad dont you?

i went off prozac in 1998 and the withdrawal syndrome from it made me feel the best ive ever felt in my life for 3 months. i walked miles easily and was constantly high day in and day out. with downregulated serotonin receptors and extracellular serotonin levels droping, it had a kick ass exitotory effect on dopamine and noradrenaline. i felt like i was on low dose LSD everyday. a wonderful way to feel great is to take prozac for a while then go off it and enjoy the withdrawal

If you fools still believe in the serotonin hypothesis of depression, look up stablon. stablon is a serotonin reuptake enhancer. it lowers extracellular levels of serotonin and guess what drug class it is. thats right, its an antidepressant, and it feels a ton better than SSRIs. its the exact opposite of an SSRI and this drug feels wonderful, where as SSRIs only make me and hundreds of others i heard of feel dysphoric. serotonin sucks, makes you feel like crap. the only reason LSD feels good is because its an antagonist at all the right 5-ht receptors and agonst at all the right 5-ht receptors. the only reason MDMA feels good is because its also a dopaminergic at the same time

The reason antidepressants work is not well understood. It is quite complicated and can involve a number of different chemicals. On top of everything, there are probably different types of depressions that is they do not all involve the same chemical. The placebo effect for depression is very strong. It is hard for antidepressants to do much better than just dummy pills.

Some of us wonder what causes what. Does depression cause changes in the brain or do changes in the brain cause depression?

The biggest probem with the biochemistry of depression is that the chemical effects occur immediatly, but the clinical effects often take weeks. Why if you change the chemistry of the nerve endings right away, do you have to wait for weeks to feel better?

A friend of mine whos studying to be a doctor explained to me very clearly about antidepressants.
They mainly help your body produce serotonin. This substance produce happiness , self confidence but can also produce agression. But who cares as long as you feel great?
Anyway our bodies should be able to produce enough serotonin without any help. Things like going to the gym , listen to the music, hang up with your friends help your body produce serotonin( next time when your doctor asks you if you do sports try to stay calm lol )
Sine you cant do all this things when you are depressed you become even more depressed day by day. This is where meds help.
The thing is that after a while your body finds itself unable to produce serotonin without the meds help( why work when there is no need to?)
This is why you feel depressed again when you quit taking them. Assuming your problems causing the depression are gone , it will take a while for your body to start producing serotinin again .But you will eventually feel good again.
I was taking Xanax not Prozac but this friend of mine also mentioned Prozac in his explanation and told me they work the same way.
I got rid of the depression soon after I quit taking Xanax but I was never able to get rid of the agression - I'm not as agressive as I was when taking Xanax but I I will never be as calm as before I started taking it.

reply concerning anti-depressants

Postby survivor101 » Mon Mar 27, 2006 9:07 pm

I have heard that they do give side effects and you can get more depressed after you stop taking them cold-turkey. I've tried paxil and I got sick of the bad headaches and always feeling tired.
