Check out my new short film about Depression

Postby slider_alt » Thu Nov 03, 2005 7:10 pm

Hi, I often experience depression and a few months ago I decided to create an animated short film that deals with the issue. The name of my film is "The Depression of Detective Downs." Today it premiered on IFILM.com. I tried to make sure I included every symptom I could think of to fully let the viewer see what it's like to be depressed.

The story involves a detective, by the name of Rolando Downs, who has to keep his mind straight long enough to bring a kidnapper to justice and save a little girl's life. It takes place over a week's time and at certain moments in the film we even see a "Depression Meter" appear on the screen to let us know exactly how depressed he is. I'd really appreciate it if you all checked it out. Who knows, maybe your friends and loved ones may even be able to understand the problem of depression a little better.

It's good,

so at the end will he ask the girl out when he buys the alarm clock
I am very nervous and private and prefer not to give any information that links my problems and my life, I hope this is okay and I wish everyone happiness.

Yeah, you got it. When I wrote that, I figured that was his way of making up an excuse for himself to go back to the Pawnshop and ask her out.

so he finds hope in the end

so he finds hope in the end, kind of a carrot being dangled and he decides to take a bite and see how it goes

it's much better to go for a story with animation, that holds peoples attention, you can spend ages making everything technically wonderful but without a story it's just unwatchable.

Your guys plight kept me interested, good job have you done other films

Yeah, I believe animation as well as live action, only works when you have a story to tell. If someone's just making something cool for people to look at and there's no story, then they probably shouldn't be making it.

My first animated short film "Tomb Hackers" is also on IFILM.com. It's 23 minutes long and it was the first time I actually started doing animation on a computer so it was a whole learning experience. Some of the animation in it (especially at the beginning of the film) isn't as smooth as I would have liked it to be in "Tomb Hackers", but people always comment on how they like it for the humor and story.

It's about two explorers in the year 2025 who go in search of an artifact known as the Mind Shifter. They believe that finding it will change their financial status and solve most of their problems, but they end up finding out that they should have left the artifact stay lost. I also completed a third film that may be on IFILM sometime soon.
