zoloft for depression

Postby snapdawg » Sat Oct 15, 2005 1:57 am

my name is snaps dawg, and i am 15 years old. i have recently been diagnosed with clinical depression. my psychiatrist presecribed me with some zoloft. my doctor said that the zoloft was not supposed to start working for 4 to 6 weeks. 2 weeks into my taking of the zoloft, i had a panic attack and had to go to the emergency room. we went into a different psychiatrist at the same hospital and he said that he did not think that it was the zoloft that was causing the panic attacks, because my mom said that on the drug facts for zoloft she read that it could possibly cause panic attacks or sudden feeling of extreme anxiety. instead of reducing my dose of zoloft, he increased and prescribed an additional short term medicine called azitban or something like that. this medicine is really great, but he said that it can be addicting so i can only take it for another 2-4 weeks, or until my zoloft starts to work fully. i like some of the effects that i get from this new medicine. he said in his office that it can make you feel drunk, and warm inside, and i took some of this new drug before school and i have to say that i actually felt very calm throughout the day. however, something bad happened. about halfway through they day i began to feel sick. i had a fever and a headache and i was beginning to feel naseaous. i went to the nurse and she told me to call my mom and that i could go home. i called my mom but got the machine. i left a message at my moms work and told her to call the nurses office back. after about 10 minutes of lying down in the nurses office my mom called back and spoke with the nurse. the nurse told her that it would probably be a good idea if i went home. my mom said that i should walk home to the nurse, and the nurse asked me if i wanted to walk home. i walked home and then i went to bed. then i woke up the next day and went to the doctor for a throat culture. i walked into the doctors office and it was very warm inside. there were a lot of little kids inside the doctor's office. this lady took a stick and shoved it down my throat. then she pulled it out and told me to wait in the waiting room for a few minutes. about 10 minutes later she came back and said that i did not have strep throat. i was very glad to hear that i do not have strep throat because now tomorrow i can go to the minnesota gopher game. the minnesota gophers are going to play the wisoncsin badgers tomorrow and i am excited because i think that it is going to be a very good game. anyway, back to zoloft. one time i had to be put into the hospital because of my depression, because i told my mom that i was having suicidal thoughts. the doctors were all very happy that i had told my mom and just came out and told somebody. a lot of people keep these feelings inside of them, which is not a good thing to do. they just tend to keep building up until they boil over and then you might kill yourself. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS MESSAGE AT ALL BECAUSE IT IS TOO LONG AND BORING THAN BE SURE TO READ THIS AT LEAST. IF YOU ARE FEELING VERY DEPRESSED AND SUICIDAL THAN PLEASE CALL A SUICIDE HOTLINE IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE DAY THAN PLEASE CHECK YOURSELF INTO A HOSPITAL. EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT VERY FUN IN THE HOSPITAL, IT SURE IS BETTER THAN BEING DEAD. REMEMBER, DEPRESSION IS NOT YOUR FAULT. DEPRESSION IS A MENTAL ILLNESS THAT HAPPENS FOR SOMETIMES NO REASON AT ALL. YOU ARE NOT ANY LESS OF A PERSON THAN ANYONE ELSE WHO DOES NOT HAVE DEPRESSION. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE SOME TIME AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT IN YOUR FUTURE. IF YOU WANT ANYTHING AT ALL THEN GO AND GET SOME HELP IMMEDIATELY.

I started on Zoloft when I was 16 for depression and anxiety. You can get anxious as a side effect, and it does take 4 to 6 weeks for it to take it's full effect. But sometimes with panic disorder depression and anxiety go hand in hand, it is that way for me, and alot of people. Anxiety can also come out of the blue for whatever reason.

I have never heard of developing a fever from being on the drug, nausea is a side effect, I had that alot when first taking it. I took Zoloft for 8 years...
