psychotic depression (help me!!)

Postby rain7 » Sun Sep 18, 2005 1:00 pm

i've been diagnosed with psychotic depression (after a numerous list of other accusations) im finding it so difficult to keep going but equally as difficult to end it all!! i feel like im stuck in limbo, i dont even know whats real anymore, i dont know whats my thoughts are. but im having real trouble communicating with people when i put it into words it just sounds comical and i start laughing but im desperate for help, what should i do and who should i turn to for help?
i want to live in the pretty sun but the daylight just makes me numb

Rain7,

I have periods of depression with psychotic symptoms too. For me it was a matter of finding the correct meds and therapist. The periods between depression have lengthened and if I sense I may be heading into a depression I get proactive. I actively get some help. Now, a lot of the time it just helps to talk with a good friend.

If you aren't the type to go to psychiatrists I understand. Some people find help at a good health store with vitamins.

I sure wish you well and please feel free to let us know how you are doing.

Kathy

It's Always Within Your Power

Go change therapists if you want to....

I have psychotic traits and my doctor prescribed Seroquel. There are a number of medicines that help with that aspect of your illness so don't be afraid that there won't be anything to help you.

Psychotic Depression

Postby edgar_Warhol » Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:09 pm

Rain7,

I also suffer from psychotic depression. It took me a long time to get the proper treatment for it because I wouldn't disclose all the information or wouldn't take my medicine. The best thing you can do is go to a therapist/psychiatrist combination that you can trust. For a while I thought I couldn't change my psychiatrist either, so I got a new one. I researched on the Internet to find one in my hometown, liked what I found and went to him. It was terrifying at first, but yeah, he's great. I've also found some medication (Abilify) that seems to work really well.

Well, it works when I take it. See, I haven't taken my meds in a while and I'm having a really bad time right now. I'm taking off work tomorrow to go to an emergency appointment at my doctor's office. Anyway, hope things look up for you. If you want to correspond or anything, look up my email. I'd be willing to be a buddy for you.

Edgar,

What you said about trust...that is a huge issue. I also went hunting for a new therapist. I had a list of about 20 professionals which I called and was able to talk with most of them. I had never gone about this like this before. It felt empowering ( in a good way) and I felt totally free to choose whom I wanted. I fianlly set my mind on one of them and she has been a terrific help to me.

Hope you are feeling better soon,
Kathy
Ps) I also take Abilify and it does wonders for the voices and just my overall well being.

psychotic depression

Postby jl73 » Mon Sep 26, 2005 10:56 pm

Hi,

Can you separate the real things from the unreal dreamy feelings? A little bit or never. If it comes and goes, wait until you are able to communicate a little better, and write down as much as you can if that is less confusing. Sometimes people are too slowed down or distracted to follow conversations, and talking and thinking don't come easily.

Definitely find someone else. Get someone to help you make the change.

Also, if you've tried many different drugs and you haven't gotten better, they need to know that. If you don't want to take drugs, or they make you worse, then it's important to say that.

It is normal to have strong inhibitions against dying. It takes a lot for someone to overcome those.
