Postby Spiritman » Sat Oct 01, 2011 10:31 pm

Hi everybody I`m new here. I was admitted into a mental health unit and diagnosed with Depression(i`m out now) but i was perscribed with geodone an anti-psychotic because i hear voices and see things to. Do I really have psychotic depression? does a doctor even have to tell me the diagnosis or does it go by the medicine?

The really short answer is: yes, there is such a thing as psychotic depression.

The slightly longer answer is: psychotic depression is not simply really bad MDD; it is a thing unto itself. Though I am not a trained mental health professional, as I understand it, delusions (i.e., false beliefs sincerely held by the believer) and hallucinations (i.e., idiosyncratic sensory disturbance) are characteristic of psychosis, and psychotic depression responds best to a coregimen of antipsychotics and antidepressants.

Note: Please consult your psychiatric health professional before commencing or discontinuing and medication, and do not take any specific medical from anonymous posters on the internet.
Dx: ADD, MDD
Current Rx: 300 mg Wellbutrin, 40 mg Viibryd, 2 mg Tenex
Previous Rxs: 200 mg Zoloft
