Diagnosed with depression

Anyone on Effexor, if so do you have any side effects, such as insomnia, what do you do about it. Lack of sleep makes everyhting worse as far as I am concerned. Also anyone just recently diagnosed with depression, like I am, was it related to a life stressor?

I have taken Effexor and I had difficulty getting to sleep. It also caused me to really sweat--my back was just dripping. The latter disappeared after I had been on the drug for about 6 weeks. There can be numerous side-effects to antidepressants. They usually subside in a few weeks after your body has adjusted to them. I would, however, definitely discuss your insomnia with your doc. If it persists, you may want to try another drug.

In terms of the relationship between stress and depression -- the reading I have done suggests that depression is a result of a mixture of your genetic makeup together with various environmental factors, such as stress, loss, lack of emotional support from others, etc. Nothing happens in isolation. It is also known that depression runsin families. Do you have any other relatives who have experienced depresssion?

Hope this helps.

My dr knows about the insomnia and has kept me on this med, he prescribed Imovane for 2 weeks to help with sleep, but I am only able to get 4 hours sleep out of it for some reason. I find I have these surges of heat almost like hot flashes where I perspire for no reason and then it is gone. I had nausea and dizziness and dry mouth at first but those are gone, just the insomnia I can't shake. There is no depression that I know of on my side of the family. I have been under alot of stress and pressure in past several years and haven't had a lot of support at home. I ahve had the tendenacy to bottle things up to and pretend that all is well to make everyone else happy. I guess you can only do that for so long befoere you break.
Thanks for your input an dadvice.
