CBT rational emotive behavioral therapy practical experienes

Postby sunandoghosh » Sun May 29, 2005 2:44 pm

Hi everyone,

I have been prescribed CBT - Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy...

I did some initial reading about it on the net...

I also had two sessions with the clinical psychologist....

BUT I am still unable to get anything out of it or what I am supposed to do or how it goes...????????

I would love if anyone who has personally received REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy) - a variant of CBT....would share his/her experiences?????????

I would speciafically him/her to share:

1. Did it really helped???????

2. What exactly it did???????

3. Are you still applying/using it????

4. Is it worth it???????

5. Is it really practical or more idealistic with no practical dimension?????

AND OF ALL DOES PSYCHOTHERAPY ACTUALLY HELP IN ANY WAY????????????????????

Plz come forward and share ur experience in as much detail as possibe....

And yes I am really thankful for sharing ur experience and taking effort to express it...

Its truly truly appreciated...

Thanks tonnes in advance....

best regards,

sunando

Hi I answered your post in the other forum.

Yes CBT does help, it helped me with my anxiety.
It helped me to change around my negative thinking patterns

I continue to use it when I have too.

Yes it is worth it

I've been seeing a psychiatrist for over 8 yrs for depression, anxiety and ptsd as well as SAD she has helped me through my worse times. So yes in my opinon it is worth it, it does help..

I agree totally with Sadgurl. I learned a type of rational emotive therapy in Recovery, inc, a self-help support group that costs very little--a hat is passed for donations.

I used to be on a lot of medication for depression and bipolar. Today, I've been off medication and have been doing well for many years. This therapy does require some learning, and it takes longer than pills to see major results. Research shows it to be as good as pills, but there is not much rebound after the therapy sessions end. Most people seem to have to stay on some sort of medication for life, once they start. When trying to get off of meds, one often suffers a rebound of symptoms. This does not occur so much with rational emotive therapy.

On my website, I have a lot of information about Recovery, Inc--in one article and in the appendix of my book (available free on my website).
Good Luck,
Jim S
