To be perfectly honest, I imagine these feelings you're having are just manifestations of your depression. I sort of get where you're coming from though. About feeling hopeless and feeling like the end of the world is coming. Every once and awhile I get this attitude about me like, "Hey, the world is done anyway, why do I bother making friends or doing things I like. I might as well just pack it in".
It's as though the human race is completely done for and I have no drive to be a good person or anything because everyone is done and no one really cares about each other anyway.
I'm not doctor or anything though. What does your psychiatrist say?

hi bloojon,
You know you should give up this type of thinking. It is worthless really. It may increase your depression or may be your anxiety.
Why should we think meaningless which will tend to obsession or meaningless depression?

abruptlyperfectowl -- I hope it's just a manifestation of the depression, it just seems like it's reaching all new levels this round. I don't see the doc again for a week, so I haven't mentioned it yet. Thanks for your reply.

How do you "give up" this type of thinking? I think it is part of the depression and not something that the person creates themselves. With medication these feelings as I call them get better. Despite the fact I have been on medication for 12 years for major depression and OCD I still get these feelings. It just comes with the depression.

I've just been getting these feelings like the world is going to end and I just can't imagine life going on for very much longer, so that's really adding to my sadness and lack of motivation. Has anyone else experienced these sort of doomsday feelings? Are they just another symptom of depression or maybe something else? Thanks for your help.
I feel for you because I have dealt with those same feelings. I think once you start your medication it will get better. Don't expect it to get better overnight but it will get better. As I said before I still get those feelings from time to time. I don't think it is something we can control either.
