Unwanted surgery being forced on me

Postby Chris516 » Sun Nov 11, 2007 6:36 pm

I was 'supposed' to have a vasectomy around 12/9/07. I changed my mind, because of some of the post-op horror stories about procedures gone wrong. My mother said it was a condition of, my living with her, again. I have had enough surgery in my life, with six brain surgeries by 9yrs.-old(1976), wisdom teeth removed and, one severely in-grown toe nail.

Vasectomy is a safe and effective procedure with a short recovery period. I had mine performed several years with absolutely no problems. Within 2-3 days I was back to normal. I recommend a urologist, since it's their level of expertise in lieu of GP. Lets not forget, it's for an important cause.

Chris...

I am going to let Darkmeat lead the way on this; as a woman, I don't think I could have the same perspective on this type of surgery as a man. Here is a site that lists some potential complications:

http://www.vasectomy-information.com/moreinfo/risks.htm

My only input is regarding the anesthesia and recovery. Have you talked to the urologist about what kind of anesthesia will be used. Procedures are changing quickly and I understand there is a "needleless' type of vasectomy. Even if this is not what your doctor will be using, the type of anesthesia used in this surgery is quite different than what would be used for your previous brain surgeries.

I understand totally your fear of anesthesia; I am going under tomorrow for a minor procedure (in my view, anyway) and would have preferred a local even if it meant more pain.

Good luck to you. I think my main objection to having any kind of surgery would be if it were a "requirement." I am sure that there must be some reasoning behind it, but when I am forced to do something, I tend to balk.

Best,

N.

I believe men in general need to be more proactive on this; the procedure itself is easy compared to the choices women have.

I know many in loving long-term marriages where the husband refuses; then forces wife to have the procedure because of his own insecurities and afraid of tiny incision on precious family jewels;-)

Well, Now, My mother has gone so far, as to, tell the guy rebuilding her shed and, trying to get him to convince me. Now, I am even less willing than I was before because, she has gone over the line this time.

While that is an emotional issue between my mother n' I, the fact that she violated my privacy, just to get what she wants.

I am not out to populate the world but, I don't want to be a surgical guinea pig, either.

Now that my mother has violated my privacy by telling the guy rebuilding her shed and, trying to get him to convince me, she has guaranteed, that I won't have it!!! I wouldn't be surprised if she tells the neighbors!!!!!

Hi, Chris516! Your mother shouldn't force you to do anything to your body and she should never tell other people about something like this. She did violate your privacy and she has no right to do that. I hope you are ok.

Solution -- don't bother with the surgery if you don't want to; who cares what your mom thinks or suggests. Of course it's a violation of privacy.

Your mom had no right to violate your privacy like that. It's your body, not hers. If you want it, you get it. If you don't, then forget it.

It's your choice, not hers. Remember that.

Hope all works out,
Mike
I can carry the whole weight of the world on myself and not have a problem, but as soon as I add my own, it's impossible.

Never know what you'll learn today - maybe something new. Did you know [insert traumatic experience] happened? Well today you had that flashback! Gee whiz, isn't life just WONDERFUL? :D
