Yeah, they can make you go to a hospital whether you like it or not. 9_9 It is only if you are a threat to yourself or others. So if she said something suicidal, then they can put her in a hospital. Actually, they have to do that. I think you can say you have suicidal thoughts but if you actually say you're going to do it then they will admit you. So if you don't want to go to a hospital then don't say anything too suicidal.

They probably will let Emily out once they think she's not going to kill herself anymore. She has to make improvement. I'm not sure how the adult mental hospitals are, but I went to a teenager one and stayed a week (short term). Some people stay up to 2 months though (long term). And then some people have to live there pretty much forever. They let us make phone calls to our parents so maybe they do that in the adult hospitals, too. But she would probably not be alowed to talk to you cus you're just a friend. But if you know her family then you can go to their house to sneak up and talk to her. ^.^ The only way to get out is to do what they say and be (or pretend to be) feeling better. 9_9 It might help her but hospitals don't always help everyone though because everyone is different.

Have you tried your meds before? I'm on a ton of them! @_@ It seems that you have reasons for your depression other than chemical imbalances, since it has only been a year after your mom died, and your dad died when you were just a kid. I know it's really hard to deal with losing a parent, I've been through it. You should ask your doctor when Emily will get out. Don't give up hope! Therapy can help but just don't say you're going to kill yourself! O_O And definately don't kill yourself! ;_;

Therapy and medications take time to work but to me, they are better than nothing. But it's your decision. What medications are you on? Most of them take 2 or 3 weeks to start doing anything. 9_9

To leave a mental hospital you have to either become happier or pretend to be.

I know therapy and meds can be frustrating, but if you can afford it and deal with side effects, it's worth it. I've been on 12 different medications and have been in therapy since I was 11. I got hospitalized once. I go to group therapy, individual therapy, intensive outpatient, and a psychiatrist. Right now I'm on 3 meds at morning and 2 at night. @_@ Nothing seems to be working but I don't give up hope. You shouldn't either.

But it could be the therapists you are seeing that are the problem. Some therapists are good but some can really suck. >_< Make sure the doctor listens to what you say and takes your recomendations into consideration, and answers your questions.

Don't get over-medicated or get on too many meds unless your body can handle a lot. I'm over-medicated right now but I don't care. It's better than nothing. If you stay on meds be prepared to try a lot of experimentations. It's up to you, though.

Hope I helped some. ^_^
