Hi, I wanted to share my story of being misdiagnosed with major depression and schizophrenia which turned out to be autoimmune encephalitis (brain inflammation). After two years of psychiatrists, I finally obtained proper treatment with immunosuppressants. I advise everyone to get autoimmune testing (Anti-Tg, Anti-TPO antibodies, ANA antibodies, c-reactive-protein, etc.), just in case!

I also suggest checking for hyperglycemia - how high does your blood sugar go up two hours after a meal? High blood sugar fluctuations can correlate with mood swings. I feel better on a low glycemic diet.

I have written my story of being misdiagnosed with schizophrenia and clinical depression and later on diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis. I think this disease is more common than previously thought and there are a lot of people who are misdiagnosed with psychotic disorders when the cause is an autoimmune condition.
