Feeling Disconnected

Postby Vakate » Mon May 15, 2017 2:15 am

I have been recently diagnosed with severe clinical depression and i don't know how to cope at all. I have meds and i go to counseling but I need other ways to help me get through this. I have a very distinct disconnection from reality in which it feels like my body is on autopilot and my consciousness is foggy and diluted. I zone out all the time and I forget what I am doing after only a few minutes. For example, I was participating in a staring contest and I forgot I was in the contest and blinked. My grades in school have all dropped because I have no time to focus on anything else besides this empty void inside. I just need some tips. Sorry for venting.

It's fine to vent. I used to make sure I was in touch with my doctor (psychiatrist) and the therapist. Depression is very hard on us. I used to just take it a day at a time. That was all I could do. So that is my advice to you. Let your meds start to work, and keep going to therapy. Aside from that, reach out to others who can be there for you. You don't need to carry this weight alone.

So sorry to hear what is going on for you :( but so glad that you are seeking help for it! You should be super proud of yourself for taking that step, it can be difficult for many people so you are definitely on the right path! As for anything else you can do in the mean time, it might be useful to take up some sort of hobby, it could be anything from exercise (a really good one as you get an endorphin rush), writing (good way of expressing yourself), music, really anything that you enjoy and can get stuck into! Don't be too hard on yourself, you may be doing better than what you think you are. Don't forget to use your resources and ask for help when you need it, you're definitely not going through this alone!
