How long for AD to work?

Postby Jmeth66 » Tue Oct 11, 2016 1:10 am

I started a an AD about 2.5 weeks ago. I had one okay day three days ago and thought the med was starting to work now I've had a few horrible days. How long did your medication take to work?

Brintellix took 6 weeks to work. I don't remember how long the others took. I read they can take 4-6 weeks. Perhaps others have more information to add.

Depending on medication (which one are you taking?) they can take 4-12 weeks to actually work. And in that period you may actually feel worse. But if it gets really terrible, side effects you can't tolerate (I had insomnia, suicidal thoughts, self-harm ideas) CALL your doctor right now.

Ah – I saw your other thread. Big hugs if wanted. I'd say it's a good thing you're at a hospital since that means you're being monitored. When I was hospitalised, they changed medication very quickly and reacted to changes in my mood really fast. It was very difficult as it's not exactly fun to skip the taper part, but also brought the desired effect.

I hope things go alright – please keep us posted, ok?
