venlafaxine withdrawal and supplement support

Postby theballboy » Sun Sep 18, 2016 12:33 pm

Hi everyone

I would really appreciate everyone's input on my current supplementation below

Morning (without food) past 3-4 weeks

Inositol choline 250/250 mg

Nac 600mg

L thenanine 200mg

Taurine 1000mg

Since yesterday (after last ssri dose)

L tyrosine 1000

5 htp 100mg slow release

45 min later

Cytoplan Wholefood multivit

Some wholefood superfoods

Evening (1 hr before sleep)

Taurine 1000 mg

5 htp 100mg

Background / history.

Just finished tapering off ssri drugs after 20 years after initial hospitalisation fir severe depression and anxiety. But after another breakdown and hospitalisation last april, i started to look deeper after having to go through a horrific time of trying to end my life. no one supposed to be on antidepressants for 20 years imo. Failure on the Healthcare systems part to recognise and signpost the correct necessary psychological treatment for me but after a year of intensive psychotherapy I feel like I'm getting to the route of the issues and not trying to stick an ssri plaster over it.

Was Having alot of withdrawal issues from venlafaxine. 375 to 0 yesterday reducing around 75 every week or 2

Mainly fluish symptoms, flushes, cold sweats, Brainzaps, sleep disturbances, foggy brain, difficulty concentrating, irritability, anxiety and emotional instabilty.

awful today on day 2 of complete withdrawal

The plan i put together was born out of reading around various alternative supplements and nootropics

Would love to hear peoples thoughts, concern's and suggestions

Especially on the debate around tyrosine and 5 htp

Thanks in advanc

I'm currently taking Venlafaxine and have run out of pills or missed doses for other reasons a few times. Personally the only supplement I tried that I found helpful was St. John's Wort. I have also heard of others being prescribed Prozac on a temporary basis for withdrawal symptoms. In general it's not a good idea to combine multiple serotonergic substances (e.g. prozac and St. John's Wort or either one and 5-HTP) due to the risk of serotonin syndrome. Try one at a time.

don't take 0mg of vanlafaxine, stay on a low dose for months before going to 0mg. the anxiety withdrawal i had from venlafaxine was brutal and it did not end until 4 months after going to 0mg. the first 1 month of 0mg was fine then at month 2 of 0mg the anxiety started. don't let that happen to you. benzos help but not as effectively as a sensible taper. venlafaxine is not an ssri it's an snri which is far more potent

I just feel angry at the minute. Been a very strange few days since going to 0mg.
Yesterday and today were awful. Awful nausea and flu like symptoms. Iv i looked left or right up or down i was getting brain zaps or electric like shocks. Dreaming was scary stuff and very disturbed sleep. Hard to wotk out and i guess alot of its guess work.
Did i just contract some 24 hour viral thingy?
Was it withdrawl?
Was it 5htp on empty stomach causing sickness and somd serotonin like syndrome happening in brain cuz maybe i was adding it to vensir that mighg still be in my system?

Gonna give the l tyrosine and 5 htp a miss tomorrow, see how that goes. Then try it again wed. If it all startsbup again ill knos it aint aggreeable with me.

Generally very short tempered and angry at the minute thpugh although nausea has subsided and headaches stopped with flu tablets and andrews powder

I would strongly suggest that you don't introduce new substances having just quit one. Because when things happen, you don't know what is causing the problems. And the withdrawal – or brand new side effects don't necessarily show immediately either, so it really isn't as easy as "I didn't take X today and I feel fine, so that means I felt unwell yesterday because I took X".
Currently working on my upcoming signature.

Yeah i agree with u. Stopped introducing anthing new

Although continued with the inositol and choline, thenanine taurine and multi vit i had been taking past month. Surely its not that as i was fine during those times

Brutal withdrawl.

Open the 75mg capsule and divide out the beads. Taper off it slower regardless of what any doctor says. Divide it into 1/4s and reduce a week or so at a time. Effexor has the worst withdrawal of any antidepressant and likely any psych drug period.
