Hi there.
I feel like I have been heavilly depressed for 2 years and it is getting to the point that i need to do something about it.
I'm nervous about the concept of counselling or any kind of face to face therapy, so i think I'd like to try antidepressants first to see if theres any help. I tried st johns wort with no results. I'd like to know if doctors prescribe antidepressant medicine without organizing counselling? I dont know how to approach it, and i certainly dont want to come across someone trying to score meds for some sort of fun.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hey there is nothing to be ashamed of or embarassed about if u suffer from depression. millions of people have depression. dont be afraid to talk about, sometimes simply discussing it makes u feel better which is why therapy can be so successful for some. anyhow talk to either you regular doc or a psych and get some meds. i am on cymbalta 30mg now and feel great. maybe even try therapy, the more u hide from your depression the worse it gets. shine a light on it, confront it without shame and u may see it start to go away. good luck.

You can either go to your local physician or a psychiatrist to get a prescription for an antidepressant. It doesn't supprise me that St.Johns wart didn't help you, because those herbal medicines are made for people with mild to moderate forms of depression so if you have a severe form of depression then the herbal stuff will most likely not do anything for you.

Therapy helped me alot with my depression.
Getting on medication is really stressful because you don't know what to expect. But it can be really helpful... it's best to talk about it with your doctor and find out what kind of options there are.
