attack of depression

Postby andend1 » Sat Feb 14, 2015 8:15 pm

Im depressed for many many years but sometimes there´s surge of acute depression and i realize i have no future, no real friends, zero capability of finding life partner or any partner at all...

My question is not about solving it (or about pills or doctors) but if you´ve any trick when something like this happens to you...What should i say at that moment to myself (it lasts app. half day and then its better sometimes)? Do you have any "phrase", which can help to overcome very dangerous and bad moment...

thank you

I sometimes said "this too shall pass." I know when my depression became really acute I would feel like it would be that bad for the rest of my life when in fact it was often better after taking a nap.

Personally I think you have to allow yourself to feel the emotions at that point in time. Write it down and get it out your head, then when you read it back the next day you can ask yourself if you still feel that way.
I also keep a 'box of nice things' which I fill will cinema/theatre tickets, receipts from outings, cards and photos. Just generally anything that I look back on and think "yeah, that was a good day."
It may not always help but like Bill4315 said - this too shall pass.
