Accuracy of Psych. Tests/Quizzes

Postby papilloni2365 » Mon Feb 02, 2015 1:02 am

Just a quick simple question (not sure if this is the right place to ask...) on online psychological quizzes, specifically depression-related ones. I recently took one (psych central's depression screening test) and I'm just wondering if they're accurate. And I know it's not an actual diagnosis. Thanks to anyone who replies :).

My opinion on online quizzes is pretty low. I did my share of those quizzes, and sometimes I just don't have a good answer to a question. In a test printed on paper and interpreted by a doctor I would write next to it -- "sometimes it's yes and sometimes it's no", you can't do this with an online quiz. Also it's easy to miss out a crucial word -- "do you ALWAYS feel x?" and respond "yes" because I OFTEN feel x. I have borderline traits as part of my diagnosis, but in an online quiz I get "it is highly unlikely you have borderline" as the only answer. I consider those quizzes an indication if anything.

Ditto to what Oliveira said.

some of those tests can be okay but they've diagnosed me with everything from Bipolar to BPD and clinical depression.. in reality (i think) I simply have c-PTSD with on and off depression crashes and some BPD traits..

I also don't have aspergers according to at least one quiz but many others tell me that i do - some tell me that I'm simply ''likely to have aspergers''.. the professional that diagnosed me assures me that aspergers is correct

Basically, the only accurate way of finding out what's going on for you is to talk to your psych/a psych.

I like your username btw.. brings to mind images of butterflies and pizzas = yay
