effexor withdrawal symptoms

Postby jlc123 » Mon Oct 13, 2014 2:50 am

Hi there, so I've been off effexor for a couple months now, after gradually tapering off under my Dr's supervision. I was on 10m for quite a few years. The first month after being completely off was horrible, non stop crying, panic attacks, anxiety, etc. The past two weeks have been really good, I've never felt so good in as long as I can remember. But then this weekend has been really really rough... non stop crying, anxiety, stress, panic attacks... etc. I'm also at the end of my period, but I don't think that would effect me this much would it? I will go to my Dr, ut I wanted to see what other people have gone through first

Is it normal to have a really bad couple days after having a really good mood for 2 weeks. Any thoughts or suggestions or past experiences will really help... i want to feel better, but I feel like this battle is never ending.

I am on Effexor and wish I wasn't. It does help me, but like you know has horrible side effect regarding withdrawl. With me it was just a massive flu like feeling and every step I took was like a bass drum going off in my head. I was taking 2x my dosage due a misunderstanding. When I told by doctor what had happened (I ran out cold turkey about 4 days prior) he about fell out of his seat. I will keep taking it for now. I'd rather take Tramadol. That is the best mood elevator I ever took. It is a mild pain pill and I took it for about 5 years, starting about 10 years ago. I got it for pain, but I took it for the way it made me feel mentally. The DEA is about to crack down on Tramadol due to it helps people. The DEA/gov't needs everyone in pain (unless you are a 1%'r, then you are above the law). I take /other/ pain meds now. Good luck with your meds. I have read that Lyrica and/or Benzo's help with withdrawl from a lot of drugs.

That was the worst med I was ever on, my withdrawal symptoms were so bad I should have been hospitalized but just didn't think of it at the time. The first week I was puking and could barely eat. It made me suicidal even though I wasn't before I went on it. My vision was also messed up, there were times I couldn't focus my eyes, it was really frightening. My symptoms lasted for at least a month before they started to get better even though I wasn't on it long and did taper off. I hope your doctor can maybe give you something to make getting off it less awful.

Taking pain meds as mood elevators is not a good idea. I have chronic pain and have had to be on pain meds off and on my whole life. The withdrawal from pain meds is very painful and dangerous.

Were you/are you bipolar at all?
I've heard that people who take ssri's are more likely to become depressed again in the future. I wouldn't call that withdrawal though.

If you are asking me, I have never been diagnosed with it. But I am being prescribed Lithium and have been taking it for years
