Should i add Effexor (Venlafaxine) into the mix?

Postby ForcedIsolation » Thu Feb 20, 2014 5:42 pm

Hi,
Firstly i'm 19 year old male based in the UK. Here we don't get to see a doctor for 6 weeks and when we do it's only 10 minutes and a SLIGHT increase in drugs. Therefore i do order mine online via Canada.

My depression has been rock bottom at the moment, and i have even been very suicidal.
I currently take:

300mg Welbutrin SR
100mg Sertraline (The only prescribed drug i take)
40mg Buspar

When i bought these tablets i also added Effexor into the mix, but never taken them as i thought too many may cause severe side effects. But now i'm suffering so badly does anyone know if i can take this drug too?

Thanks :)

Were you prescribed Effexor??Seems like alot of meds to be mixing. But Im not familiar with any of those meds except Effexor, which I only took briefly,as it made my blood pressure too high. You can try googling medication sites. Some of them I think you can punch in what you are taking and they will tell you if you can mix or not.Can some of your meds actually be making your depression worse?Sometimes young people have different reactions to these meds.DONT quit taking anything though. Can you get into actual therapy,or are you already?Taking meds isfine..but meds just alleviate symptoms.Therapy helps to get to the root of the problems and issues and can teach you coping skills and mechanisms. Please call your UK help hotline if you are suicidal.I dont know if they have the number listed here, but if you google a site that no longer seems to be active called Therapy 247,they have the UK number listed. Please stay with us,depression does get better. Can you go to emergency room also if you feel you cant cope?XX

I would be really cautious taking all that medication without checking it first with a doctor. I'm not sure self-medicating is a good idea.

I too am in the UK. You should insist on seeing your doctor - when I had major depression I was seeing my GP every week. When you book an appointment tell them you need a double appointment so you get more than your 10 minute slot. I have to say my GP was very good - I was having problems getting to see her and she made a note on my records that I was to be seen by her when I needed to. Have you explained to your GP you are feeling suicidal? I think that's what made the difference for me. They can put you in touch with the local crisis team too so you have a number to call if you're feeling really bad.

It sounds to me as if you need to talk to your GP and get your medication reviewed.

Effexor is hard to withdraw from.
2012 "just anxiety"
2013 inpatient 'suicidality, MDD etc
2014 "youve been diagnosed with everything under the sun"

NO. Steraline is an SSRI and Effexor is an SSNRI. Taking both can cause Serotonin Syndrome. It can kill you.

I'm in the US. Are Welbutrin and Benzodiazipines not controlled in the UK??? Benzos like Buspar are extremely addictive and both can have serious side effects.
