Ever since I was little, I was always left out. Now I'm an adult and I still carry those "I don't belong" anywhere feelings. Because of this, I withdraw from family and have no friends. Does anyone else have these feelings? I feel like I'm alone in this process.

This was me for the longest time... Whether it was my interests, the way I looked at the world, or the way I communicated, I just couldn't seem to click with people or "tune in" to groups.
Why your family, though?

Tea leaf..Thanks for the reply. How did you get past it? I still carry the feelings of trying to belong or fit in back from when I very young.
Can anything help me feel normal? Loved? I have tried antidepressants and they don't work. I've been on Celexa and Zoloft. I feel very hopeless.

I just go without. It used to hurt A LOT. Now it just hurts a little less. I work a lot and do things to keep myself from thinking to much.

It's been awhile, but if you're still visiting I'll say that what I improved was my empathy, my ability to recognize what people were feeling and what their perspectives on life were. Being able to understand more about them made us feel less different, so I didn't feel so alien after awhile.
The good news is that it's something that can be improved!

I'm 22 and still feel this way sometimes. It's strange, cause I barely felt anything like this in my teens. Sometimes I'm perfectly okay with not belonging anywhere and take pride in being 'my own man', other times I find myself desperately longing for some place to fit in. I think this problem is made worse by you thinking like this though, at least it is for me.

Yeah, I felt that way until I was 26. I'm not sure when I got over it, but I was 26 when I noticed I was over it. I guess partly having my depression treated and partly making better friends, which I was only able to do because I had my depression treated. Also as you get older you become a better judge of character and hang out with people who don't make you feel like that. That's what I think anyway.

i always felt like there's too many people invovled in my business and i wish i had some chance for myself or to make decisions for myself rather than other people making it for me.

Hi there
I'm 56 and I have never felt I belong anywhere. I used to say it was like I was dropped here from another planet. Obviously I now know others feel the same I know I am not going mad! I must belong amongst others who feel misplaced . X
