Fish Oil dosage

Postby Tauran » Tue Dec 31, 2013 7:17 am

Hello -
I joined this site for completely different reasons, but I do suffer "severe" clinical depression, so I keep up on this stuff. I wanted to add this to the "self help for depression" post, which is EXCELLENT, but it's locked.

Fish-oil is being touted as a great treatment for many things, and it is, but if you read the studies, all the ones finding benefits were done with at least 2000 mg of fish oil, and most of the brands recommend only 1000 mg on the label. 1000 mg isn't likely to help anything. I think they're in the process of changing the labeling, since the last bottle I bought was correct but previous ones weren't. I just wanted to let everyone know that if you're taking it and it's not helping, check the dosage before quitting. For me personally, it doesn't "cure" depression but it makes a noticable difference. (Also is helping my fingernails stop splitting.)

Too much fish oil will give you vitamin A poisoning. DHEA is the good stuff and you can find it in anchovy oil without vitamin A problems.
