Citalopram

Postby naomi96 » Wed Dec 18, 2013 5:27 pm

I'm 17 and I was put on citalopram 8 weeks ago for depression and social phobia. Initially I felt an improvement with the social phobia but mainly because I didn't feel like I felt anything at all but it didn't help with my moods. I either felt very down or emotionally numb. After an incident on a bus involving me having a panic attack, my anxiety has gotten bad again to a point where it's not just social situations I feel anxious for but for pretty much anything. My doctor recently increased the dose of citalopram but as of yet I've felt no improvement and haven't left the house in days because of my anxiety. I was thinking maybe I need to try some different medication but my doctor was reluctant to give me Citalopram at first because of me being under 18 and I've heard that this type of antidepressant is the one most commonly given to teenagers so I'm not sure if he'd be willing to try me on something else. I was wondering what anyone else's experience with citalopram or any other type of this medication has been like and if anyone's had similar problems?
