Anger and Irritablity when Depressed

Postby SadInLeduc » Tue Nov 19, 2013 3:15 pm

I've heard this is mainly a problem with men who experience depression, just like it is to self medicate by drinking and using drugs. I recently came into contact with a girl I cared about, and sabotaged the relationship, since I realize now I was depressed since the summer. I have the bad habit of waiting months to see if it will pass, instead of seeing my GP, which would have been better, as I was raised to believe any mental health problem was considered a weakness or character flaw.

Anyway, she had got in contact with me for the first time in years, and due to the state I was in, I completely blew it. I was uncharacteristically irritable, short tempered, and taking things the wrong way. I wrote a nasty letter to her, after she did not respond to me for a week, and may have severed ties with her.

I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else, when they have had episodes of depression?

I think it may be a fairly common thing for people with depression to experience. Sounds sightly similar to what I experience.

I don't have much of a temper, but I do notice I have a lot less patience and get angry and irritated a lot easier. Though it sounds like we may differ in that I only get these feelings for a short time, my mood usually resets after awhile.
