Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I started taking Zoloft in January and gained 13 lbs (5''4, 115 before Zoloft)I felt great on the Zoloft, but could not risk gaining more weight. I was in a relationship with someone with NPD disorder which was causing me significant depression. I have a longstanding history of anxiety (GAD) and took many medications in the past, including several Xanax a day, until I found out I was pregnant in 2011. I stopped all meds and felt great until my relationship with the narcissist worsened (he is the father of my son).I could not eat and fights were so bad I often threw up because he upset me so much. He made me feel awful about myself, so I developed depression. I then started Zoloft but have not been pleased with the weight gain. I stopped cold turkey one week ago and asked my MD for Wellbutrin as I heard it does not cause weight gain.
I have concerns about Wellbutrin though. I do drink wine (a few glasses) several days a week. The label says to avoid alcohol. What is the specific issue with Wellbutrin and alcohol? The pharmacist said this due to causing drowsiness, but info seems to indicate it increases seizure risk? My MD also said it should not be used if someone had a hx of bulimia or anorexia. I went through an awful period when I was 19 (now 32) when I was upset about a breakup and could not eat and got down to 105 lbs. My doctor diagnosed me with an eating disorder, but I truly feel I didn't have one (I was just heartbroken over losing my first love). I do have a history of periodically binging and purging . No more than 3x a week and only here and there. I often don't do it at all but it sometimes to lose weight. I did not disclose this to my MD. Is Wellbutrin safe for me with this history?
Wellbutrin had caused me to have increased anxiety. I don't know what to do. I will not take Zoloft again and gain weight. Anyone have any insight as to what I should do? I don't know if Wellbutrin is risky for me due to these issues. Thanks!!!
