Due to having an older sibling and a Mother, whom are often mute due to mental and neurological issues.. My youngest son, despite being able to speak, communicates by silently mouthing words and pointing. We have been working with him, however.. We become riddled with guilt and usually give in and protect him intently.
This morning Alice handed out alittle tough love.. She promised that the boy would be ok, and offered Christine an entire 24hrs of freedom if anything happened to him. The other girls just sat back and stayed out of the way.. They sheepishly cower when it comes to the boy.
After nearly 40 mins of ignoring; points, jumping, intent yet silently mouthed words, soft little hands petting at our face for attention, and frustrated tears welling up in his eyes..
I heard.. "Mommy, I said I want a drink"
We celebrated, we danced, we got a drink!.. He went to his room to play.. 5mins later, He came back..
For the past 2 hrs he has been informing me of all of the things that have been locked inside. He let me know that he is excited about us moving and wants his room to be orange. He wanted me to call his grandma and tell her that he wears big boy underwear. He told me that he fed his sandwich to the dog. He stated that he needed a napkin cause he spilled jelly several days ago.. and best of all .. and the part that changed my life ..
"Mommy.. I love u, even when ur not happy... its ok"
The tears are still flowing.. Such a simple, powerful moment
... To all of my friends.. suffering.. questioning..
Its ok! I love u .. even when ur not happy
We dont need to explain, we dont need to understand.. We just need to know we are loved
