Depression/Grief Issues

Postby survivor101 » Sun Mar 05, 2006 11:03 pm

:( :?  It is hard to deal w/depression/grief. I am constantly trying to tell myself it's okay to break down and cry. Just to get it out, well it helps. But, I think exercise is helping some too.
I also think my IBS is causing me to get ulcers, but its stress and all.
It just is terrible. Sometimes which is most days are worse than others. I guess I have to start helping ME first...

While I do believe crying is a wonderful way of relieving the stress of grief, I believe it's important to learn other ways also.

Sometimes a person may allow themselves to get stuck in just one aspect of their grief.

Exercising will help. It get's the body and brain to release a lot of chemicals that aid in emotional healing. It is another great stress reliever.

You also should find emotionally rewarding activities in which to participate. Your personality is a good indicator of what works best for you. Find an activity that up until now, you've always wanted to try, then do it.

The sun is a great way to help the emotional healing process as well. Remember to wear sunscreen. Sunburns are a real bummer!

Have pets? If not, know someone who does? Animals are a great stress reliever. You don't have to own one to enjoy them. A visit to a zoo is most relaxing to me. I get exercise, sun and animals all in one shot

And the most important thing is to not be so hard on yourself.
Everyone grieves at a different pace and as long as you take steps to take care of yourself, you'll do just fine.
