grounding

Postby pheonixrise » Mon Jul 18, 2011 7:47 am

What do you do to ground yourself? I usually try to really notice my connection to objects around me (particularly my feet on the floor) but it seems to not be working so well recently.

I try mindfulness.

Trying to stay in the moment & pay very close attention to whatever I'm doing or whatever my sense are picking up. I try not to fade into my mind. It only works a tad for me though because I have chronic dissociation.

But its an idea for others.

I have two things for grounding. 1st a visualization technique. Stand tall, plant your feet solid on the floor, barefoot on grass is good. Imagine roots growing out the bottom of your feet, every time you breathe out the roots grow, do it until the roots get to the centre of the earth. Then every time you breathe in suck up colours, like every colour of the rainbow, sucked up through your roots and into your body, all the way to the top of your head. When it comes out the top of your head it changes to pure white light. Then the white light goes down through your body in time with your breathing. When your whole body is full of the earths energy, the white light slowly comes back into your head so its contained not shining out of you and the roots come back into your feet and disappear. 2nd is pets to try to connect with another living breathing thing helps, especially if you can get a dog or cat to sit on your lap, or ride a horse, because that way you can feel them breathe. Haha when I visited family noone seemed to understand how necessary this was for me. I HAD to walk barefoot in the house and outside, and they were all like "that's unsanitary". Lol, I live in FL, so it's pretty common for people to go around the house/outside barefoot, but regardless, I totally needed it during that visit!!! Otherwise WEIRD $#%^ started happening...like emotions would pop out of nowhere and try to TAKE OVER!!! It was quite the scary time.

my dad used to tell me off a lot as a child for not wearing shoes. i hadn't considered that may have been the reason for it. now that i think back, it does make a lot of sense.
