please help me

Postby DaneClark » Thu May 05, 2016 8:45 am

I've been suffering from derealization for years. If I'm going to get anywhere, I'm going to need to completely rewire my thinking patterns. I need thinking patterns where everything feels very structured, but your brain still generates as much white noise as it can, and allows your brain to approach things from multiple angles without making everything feel fragmented. I need to know if there are any good books that teach that kind of philosophy. And I also need to know what kind of effects Luvox will have on cognitive biases.

Dear DaneClark:

I think philosophy is not going to do it, that is approaching what needs to be done from a purely rational perspective alone is not going to work. In the wiring of our brain, logic and emotions are connected multiple times, many thousands or ten or hundred thousands of connections (pathways) between logic and emotions. To re-wire the brain, you need to release certain "emotional knots" - to untie those knots/ connections and form new connections between emotions and logic. Such can be done in competent psychotherapy, combining CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Mindfulness (meditation, paying attention, a skill necessary).

Maybe books on CBT and about Mindfulness, can help you.

I like how you are interested in learning and being a self-advocate. I've learned that I can study, practice, and implement, but what works for one alter, doesn't work for all. I love my T because she gives me a lot of strategies for moving forward. Love and light to you:)

CBT is falling out of the mainstream except for in cases of anxiety disorders and OCD.

I recommend the book "Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life." The title is horrible, I'll admit. It sounds like something Dr. Phil would recommend, by my therapist had me use it and it helped a lot. It's about ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). Good stuff.
