I have DPD. So happy I found this forum! Feel alone.

Postby Thirteen » Mon Jan 26, 2009 6:53 pm

Hi there everyone :D My name is Jenna, I am only 21 years old and have Bipolar Disorder, OCD, Dependent Personality Disorder, and suffer from a chronic pain disease called Fibromyalgia. I belong to 2 other forums which I have become very dedicated to. I just feel alone with DPD because I don't know one other person with it and I had trouble finding a forum for it...

I feel empty and upset inside because the only person I know who also has a personality disorder was my old best friend, he and I have drifted apart (hey, it happens sometimes) and I feel now that he may have been the only person I could've related to

Even if I find only one other person who relates to me and feels what I feel, it'll make me happy...

Nice to meet all of you. xoxo

Hey Thirteen,

There are a few people here with DPD but I think that we mostly get people here who know others with the disorder (as opposed to having it themselves). In some respects, I do relate to you and to DPD itself, but Asperger's Syndrome describes my problems better, I feel. How exactly does your DPD manifest itself? Like, do you become so dependent on people that you grossly alter your life? Talking about it will help you.

I wanted to say that I have OCD also. I also have Bipolar but have a bunch of other things also but this isn't about me it's about you.

How do you manage your DPD?

I have OCD too actually, and it's really got a hold on me these days. I feel like a slave to myself, if that makes sense. it's like I can't control my own actions anymore. i feel very much depressed and useless.

It will help users feel that they are not suffering alone. Part of a recovery - in my opinion - is recognising that there are others out there who are going through the same thing as you are.

It's harmful because your giving a picture of someone completely defeated by the OCD instead of giving optimism/hope/advice/anything helpful at all, except for the fact that you have it too, and its ruined you. You see how this can be disheartening, and make a person not want to stick around. (The poster left so it doesn't matter anymore anyway)

I still disagree with you, sublyp. In the majority of cases, simply knowing that someone else is going through what you are going through is enough to get some sort of appeasement/relief. That's what I was trying to do - i.e. relate to the OP (original poster). She/he hasn't left, by the way. I have just checked and he/she hasn't actually logged back in since he/she made the post. So, give it some time and he/she may return.

Yes, hence her reaction to seeing the forum; typing an optimistic, happy thread title. Then seeing the posts (not just yours) seem to have had the opposite effect of her never posting again. Your posts were just feeling sorry for yourself.
How can you honestly think this would be a good helpful post for an admin to a new member -
