Unusual Side Effects from Dependent Personality Disorder

Postby Samantha33 » Thu Aug 09, 2007 10:29 am

Greetings. I am new to this forum.

Over the years; several in fact, I have been looking for like minded people. I have not been diagnosed with Dependent Personality disorder, but I plan on getting it diagnosed at a later date since I am very sure I have the said disorder.

I have read the forums and I identify with some of them. But I was wondering.

Has any one found that they developed a relationship with an imaginary friend because they lost the ability to trust that any one else can care for them?

Friends who never fail

Postby bahhumbug » Fri Mar 21, 2008 5:23 pm

Imaginary friends (or lovers) never let you down. For myself I don't much like people at all but know that feeling is overblown. This is in large part a reaction to not trusting anyone and conflicts with my need for other people. Still I live like a hermit many days not talking to anyone at all in real life. I have plenty of imaginary conversations with real people and solve the worlds problems daily though. That is still fantasy. Talking to imaginary people is only for personal relationships. Can't say I do that much but I get tired of talking to myself. The imaginary friend is basically a variation on talking to myself. I don't have any imaginary friends that remain defined or constant though. They come, change, and go in an instant.

Do you have consistant imaginary friends? Do you talk about them as if they are real to people in real life? I suppose imaginary people are a release from the lack of real relationships. That can be comforting but it might also delay taking real positive action.
