I'm no expert, but it sure sounds dead-on like DD to me. The whole "leaving a note outside" thing for some reason reminds me of my mom singing into her "bugged" keychain.

I suggest you do something ASAP, since it's probably going to get ugly at some point, even though it may seem silly now.

Sounds like DD to me too. The episodic nature is very familiar to us here. I hope you can get her into treatment soon, as early treatment seems to be the best indicator of a good outcome. My ex had a couple of brief delusional periods about 20 and again 10 years before he became full blown. I did not recognize the first one, literally just laughed it off ("You can't possibly believe THAT!"). The second time I knew he was really ill, but lack of insurance & money delayed seeing a psychiatrist until the episode passed & I pretty much passed it off as stress-related & did not understand the seriousness of it. I will never know whether intervention then might have prevented him from what seems to now be permanent psychosis. When it came back, "out of the blue" it was short order for him to be diagnosed as suffering from a psychosis, and by then the delusions were considered "fixed and permanent" - a really scary thing to hear from a psychiatrist. My heart goes out to you.

Morph - the description your wifes behavior sounds all too familiar but not exactly. "I am going to win a prize, people are following me for various purposes, we are on a movie set, people are following a script, a neighbor is in disguise, etc."

Actually that just reminded me that she told me that an elderly neighbor man was dressed up in a costume. She couldn't figure out why, and who was he hiding from. Of course I argued with her that she had to be kidding. Now that happened about 15 years ago - long before the so called DD became apparent. A few years later he died. At the funeral she said that it wasn't really him, but it was the man in the gypsy costume, in the coffin. She didn't tell this to anyone else, luckily.

So there were hints, early on, what was to come.

Morph - take care of it ASAP. You are doing the right thing. Good Luck!
