Hello everyone, I would like to share with you my experience in search of an explanation and advice.
Im 22 years old (male) youngest in my family, I still live with my mom and dad and i have a 24 years old sister living with us and a 34 years old brother living in Dubai.
My dad (72 yo) had a couple of car accidents back when i was young, his body is a mess (aortic aneurysm, he cant walk for more than 10 meters, missing fingers, head/heart stroke, he basically broke every single bone in his body) he was also sent to a psychiatric hospital after the accident and was sent home after two weeks. He's basically handicapped, we move him around with a chair and do everything for him.
My dad has always had delusional disorder, he had trust issues he always accuses me of stealing from him, accuses my mom (62 yo) that she had a boyfriend and my sister of being a whore (he says those things to us).. We thought that it was just his personality and we had to live with that, he was just a horrible dad but he was handicapped so we had to take it all in.
Things took another turn in June, due to smoking and some medical problems his right leg had to be amputated. He spent two weeks in a hospital and was sent home for a month to stay in bed and started taking painkillers and thats when he started seing "people", screaming and his delusional disorder became even worse but i made a little google research and found out that it was tramadol effects, atleast i thought so.
At the end of the month, we found out that he had a big bump in his other leg and after tests it turned out to be an aneurysm and had to be operated so we got him back to the hospital and the operation was successful and he woke up the day after but he was realllyy out of this world, he thought he was in prison and a mafia was keeping him and my sister was their boss, he kept screaming and hitting nurses wanting to get out, i thought it was the effect of anesthesia but it kept going for days and then for a week .. thats when he had a severe health problem so he had to be sent to a reanimation room where he stayed two weeks. We didnt expect him to live but his willpower got him out. The doctors said that theres nothing more that they can do to him so we took him home with a large eschar in his back and an infection in his second leg with necrotic tissue.
Things has gotten even worse, he thinks he's a robot with some parts needing to be changed, he sees people and talks to them, he thinks his sisters have died and he's always screaming, even when he's not in pain, he's insults/hits us when we try to clean him up.. The doctors said that it cant be due to anesthesia and its not a brain stroke.
This has affected us real badly.
My dad is in bed since June so i had to work for all my summer break to pay for the medecines and nurses since we're struggling financially, im a dj/sound technician so i had to work the whole night and come the next day to spend the night at the hospital by my dad, i've changed diapers, cleaned infected wounds and have spent days without sleep. And now im back to studying and since i have my last year in university i cant work alot. My brother and sister are very emotional about this, but i haven't shed a single tear since the start of this even though the whole pressure was on me.
Will my dad stay like this for the rest of his life? Is something wrong with me? Will i have a breakdown/depression?
Thank you for reading this.
