delusions and now child custody battle

Postby UnicornQueen » Sun Aug 21, 2016 9:33 pm

I had a delusional episode almost a year ago that had far reaching effects. Children's Services got involved. Me and my husband split up. Custody battle now. Children's services were involved as I thought my husband was abusing our 4 yo. That was the delusion. Children's services insisted I had a full mental health assessment. I was with the crisis team and now with recovery team. I take 1mg risperidone morning and 20mg fluoxetine and 2mg risperidone night. Psychiatrist wants me to take meds until my daughter is 18 as I had delusions about people being paedophiles. I feel v well...been told I have insight into illness and that I recognise trigger....severe lack of sleep. Will the court think I'm not suitable for daughter to live with me because I've been mentally unwell? I'm so scared.

Hi,
I have full custody of my daughter in NYS. The courts won't take her away as long as you comply with the treatment. I don't think they can strip you of your rights on the grounds of a history of mental illness, that would be discrimination, right? You have rights, and you seem like a loving parent.
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I've been taking some time on vacation and haven't been following the dd forum as much. Hope you are well.
Hugs,
Sunny
