New to this

Hello, everyone,
Yesterday my BF disclosed an active belief that the TV sends him messages. He did so because I pushed him to not have secrets with me. I am glad he did, but so sad it hadn't been told to me sooner (we're almost at a year together). I work in social services, so I'm well-versed in this kind of thing and I have my own history of depression, but this really threw me for a loop. He's functional and able to care for himself. He just thinks differently. He doesn't want to seek help, either. I have so many fears, but that doesn't change the fact that he's my love. I just don't want to stay if he can't work on this with me. I'd love some advice. Thanks.

Dear plowsgal:

I would ask what messages he believes he is getting.

Makes me think of the untold numbers of people believing god is sending them messages. What is the difference? I mean, delusions are so commonplace. So depending on the messages your boyfriend is getting, it may not be a big deal.

And then TV does send messages, that is its main function: marketing messages, political messages, messages.. this is why I don't have a TV.

Maybe if he doesn't have a TV, there won't be messages- works for me!
