Is Delusion a place where we feel safe?

If so, what about reality is scaring us? Why do we have to create a delusion? Is delusion just a coping mechanism ?

I believe delusions are a combination of self defense + creativity.

Just wanted to add that my delusions were terrifying actually. Landed me in the psych ward for a bit.
