Somatic type and BDD

Postby Auxiliary11 » Sun Sep 13, 2015 2:06 am

Hello,

I suffer from Body Dysmorphic Disorder, it was never officially diagnosed but based on the criteria I think I have it. You may know of the delusional variant of BDD that a certain percentage of sufferers have, this is basically a more severe BDD (they have less insight) combined with referential thinking (delusions of reference) that revolve around the persons looks, so they will think others are taking special notice of it and ridiculing them for it.

Link about it: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2915600/

Most delusional BDD'ers will just get a Dx. of BDD, not delusional disorder, probably because delusional disorder somatic type is fairly broad in terms of what body part it can effect, and BDD explains it better.

Personally I'm utterly convinced others mock me on my looks, such as telling eachother "look at his face lol" which I guess would mean I'm delusional (unless of course they are in fact mocking me, no one has truly confirmed or denied this when they're out with me). And this, combined with other factors, has led me to become convinced that others are out to get me and want to watch me fall.

I was wondering if anyone here knows more about this? If I really do have Delusional Disorder I guess it would explain why I have so called "delusions of reference".
self dx. pdd-nos (level 1); covert narcissism w/ avoidant traits; social phobia; inertia.

INFP; dismissive/fearful-avoidant & highly sensitive person

Hi,
I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. I'm not a doctor, but the diagnosis system for mental illness is deeply flawed. Who knows what underlying diseases cause our brains to malfunction? People often accept labels passively, rather than searching for the cause and finding the cure. I don't think my diagnosis is actually very accurate, but my treatment for delusions with an atypical antipsychotic medication is essential to living the best life I can. I hope that helps.
