Imagining weird things...any ideas?

Postby Em123 » Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:07 pm

New to this site, sorry if this isn't the right place for this post. I'm haunted by my imagination, I could be talking to someone or driving to work, then all of a sudden I imagine horrible things i don't see them, its just in my head. For example, I was driving to work and i imagined a person crossing a road and getting run over?! Ive imagined driving off a bridge and landing in water and I have also been talking to my mum and imagined her very sick in hospital?! Does anyone have a clue what these are? Or has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi,
It may help to see a psychiatrist to help and figure out if it is anxiety. I get those thoughts sometimes too, but to my knowledge mine is called anxiety. It isn't psychotic unless you don't know it is your imagination only. But I'm not a doctor. There are things that can help though, and know you aren't alone with this. Sometimes connecting with the people around can help, other times there are drugs that can make it easier to live with thoughts like that. Depends on you, and how you feel. Hope that helps.

Every single person on this planet has awful thoughts, imaginations ect, but usually can get rid of these sadistic, strange imagery and thoughts from their minds almost instantly. I too 'suffer' from horrendous intrusive thoughts, the problem it seems with you and I is that they do not dissipate so easy as others. People who have ocd commonly have compulsive, intrusive thoughts. Its a compulsive, obsessive way of thinking. Mine usually flares up when everything is going well in my life, my brain has nothing negative to focus on so it creates some horrific scenario for me to obsess over, whether I like it or not. If these thoughts become tempting enough to act upon or it makes you feel like you're spiralling out of control, seek some professional help and advice. You clearly have a very active and imaginative mind, you just need to learn to tame it. Its a gift and a curse.
