I am noticing a great response to being on the elimination diet used by Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. The chronic insomnia is resolved and I am not getting any paranoid thoughts. I associate this with the elimination diet, but obviously that is just anecdotal.
There is growing evidence that food intolerance in some people can be a cause or contributor to psychiatric symptoms. The problem is that there are no double-blind trials, because these are impossible or very difficult to do with food intolerance. But there is a huge amount of anecdotal evidence.
By the by, I do not think this is orthomolecular medicine. It is not treating with supplements of foods, but it is treating by avoiding certain types of foods. And it would not be remarkable if the food chemicals we eat can cause our symptoms.
In my case, my test results suggest I have elevated polyamine metabolism, so it would be no surprise that food containing amines may be bad for me.
If you have any adverse reactions to foods at all, go and see an allergy clinic in a major city that also specialises in food intolerances. Make sure they are familiar with the elimination diet practiced by Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, who I think are a world leader. The adverse reaction you notice may be the tip of an iceberg of symptoms that are caused by food intolerance that you do not yet associate with food intolerance. You never know.
Don't do it yourself and only do it if you are seeing a qualified dietician and under the supervision of your doctor.
