Suspended University

Postby edudream » Wed Jul 31, 2013 6:04 pm

I am having a meeting to try and return to a university I was suspended from. I need advice on what to say? I need to make them know I'm not going to hurt anyone or myself, that I won't have a psychotic episode, and will graduate on time.

Should I just focus on how good I have been doing, and that should show that I am doing better and will continue to?

Hi Edudream,
I recommend you talk strategy with your therapist. Having read Elyn Saks memoir, I'd say the best way to handle this is to 1. be honest. 2. know your strengths and share those. 3. Share how school is a productive use of your capacity, and that without intellectual stimulation the disease takes hold more.

Granted if you were a threat to yourself or to others, there may be additional considerations that I am not aware of. If you were never a threat to yourself or others then, you absolutely need to make that clear. You have every right to be a student regardless of your mental health status. Best of luck.
