Can people read my mind?

Postby withoutavoice » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:45 am

Is thinking that other people can read your mind a common delusion? For example, let's say I am at the gym, I may think that the person next to me can feel what I am feeling and can read some of my thoughts.
When I think that other people can read my mind, I feel like I have to block certain thoughts out. I also feel like I have no privacy. Sometimes I swear that I can feel what other people are feeling. For example, if someone next to me has anxiety- I feel their anxiety. We could both have our eyes closed and I would feel it. I know I am extremely sensitive, but any advice? How can I fight this delusion? Is this even considered a delusion?

Hi Withoutavoice,
Welcome to the forums. I recommend talking to people. It will help. Try to connect, talk about the weather, sports, or something casual that fits in the "small talk" category. This will help reduce your anxiety and improve your wellbeing, also, you need to get help. There is no need to suffer alone. A trained mental health provider should evaluate your symptoms and you should share these concerns that you are posting about. Sometimes, medication will help, but that is between you and your doctor or nurse practitioner. Also, I've found support groups very helpful over the years.
All the best,
Sunny

That's good advice about talking to people, sunnyg. it helps with getting information to confirm or discomfirm what you are thinking. Sometimes i'll struggle with small talk though, depends on my mood.

I think that it's safe to say that people can't read your thoughts directly but they can (often quite accurately) infer your emotional state and disposition through the signals you give. Body language, facial expressions, posture, eye movement and how you are interacting with your environment and the people around you are a few of these signals.

These signals can be a reflection of your thought process and when people react to them it can be easy to mistaken their reactions as being based on some deeper insight, or telepathy. If you can influence your body language and the signals you give out then you can influence how people react to you.

I too sometimes feel that i have deep insights into other peoples emotion. but usually it's pretty girls that i don't know that well so there's my clue :-) with the people i do know well, i read their emotions wrong all the time. and the pretty girls i think are just sooo amazing? as sunnyg suggests, once i get to know more about them i can use the information to challenge my dellusion.

Sometimes I feel like I'm thinking about something so hard that other people might be able to have the same thought and don't know where it came from or why they had it.
But, I don't know-maybe it happened to me and maybe it didn't

I do remember believing i was calling out across the distance to someone i was very much in love with. I also believed we were having conversations through telepathy. Don't have them now. she did encourage me by saying she felt it too.
twin souls reunited with love so strong it can pass this distance?
Or delusion fueled my a either a manipulative or equally delusional person?
I tend towards the later but is this my way of coping with love lost. Still want to believe...

I don't like touching people because I think they can read my mind when they make contact with my skin :|

Why cant any of these people just tell this poor person the truth? People feed off of other peoples emotions. This is what i think you are feeling. No reason to be scared. Now's the time you move on. People can read your mind? So what? Start there. You're lucky. I just wish someone would have told me. Like is it really that hard? Does everyone have to keep their secrets for themselves because they are afraid of being weak. I grew up being taught to speak whats on my mind. You wont believe hard it is for me to do it now. These people are wrong. You don't need to get help. You need the help you already have. Because I believe it is wrong for someone to say you are delusional when all you did was express your feelings.

Feelings can be delusional. Not every emotion should be embraced. As an erotomanic that is the greatest challenge of the disease. When the treatment works, you can know reality, but it still feels wrong. Emotional delusions are much more challenging to treat with the medication. I'd argue that the medication simply prevents our minds from getting ill, but the emotions form in a state of psychosis as a natural response to the perceived reality. Emotional memories suck when they are wrong.

Just wanted to clarify that emotional memories can be delusional.

Hi anandhel141,

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. The best advice I have is talk with your doctor and explain your thoughts. Until the medication starts working try not to act on things you aren't certain. To gain perspective talk to the people near you who you trust and love. I always try to confirm I'm thinking right before making major choices. Hope that helps. As for others using dark magic, I invision a bright light filled with love and healing and shine it on them. Takes a lot of energy but it is worth a try. Another thing I invision is a glowing orb protecting me. It is a protective force, I like that visual image.
