I'm looking for new ideas

Postby ironoznesom » Sat Feb 11, 2012 5:24 pm

Hi!

I'm new here, I thought I'll try to post a question here and hope for the best..

Well, I think I'm suffering from a severe case of Cyclothymia. In the last few years, I thinks I function about 60% of the total time. In the rest of the time I rest. I don't feel upset (I mean directly, I'm very upset because of my condition and its consequences) just that I'm totally incapable of doing anything that needs some initiative and concentration.

I tried several medical treatments and alternative treatments.

medical: Lamictal, Lithium and several SSRIs. None had any notable affect. The alternative treatments were: Acupuncture, meditation, Food additive (Omega3, vitamin D, Coenzyme Q10) and several more that I don't recall at the moment.

My question to you: do you know of any treatment that I didn't mentioned that has helped a person with similar symptoms?

Any comment will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried being on nothing?
Just thinking maybe it could be the meds causing you to feel the way you do.

Or good old fashioned exercise?

Theraphy? Or intensive treatment programme?

Cutting out alcohol or caffeine/ generally eating well.

Get a hobbie for distraction and to focus you moods.

Really it depends what your goal is. Do you want to be symptom free? Because if you do then maybe your setting your sites to high and you should change to just wanting to get on well in life and having a few manageable/short lasting symptoms.

Here's what seems to have worked for me. More sleep, more exercise, less sugar, less caffeine, a light dose of Paxil, and talking out my issues with myself. My cycles are longer and not as much into hypomania. I've barely been subdepressed.

I found the Cyclothymia Workbook by Dr. Prentiss Price (spelling?) to be an excellent resource. Many super helpful strategies to employ to help manage symptoms. Other meds to discuss with ur pdoc... Since each "body" is different and it's a trial and error "lab rat" process til you find the right combo for you... What is working for me right now is topiramate (topomax) 100mg twice daily am then pm before bed (can have gnarly side effects that subside over time, depends) lamictal 100mg in am and bupropion HCL XL 300 mg in am. welcome to the forum : )
