Well, the Greeks had an idea called the doctrine of ethos, where if you hear a song you're in that mood until you hear another song. That's not true, but not false. Music does effect our moods and can help on down or up days. I think people with bipolar have two sets of music for their swings. Playing a musical instrument or drawing can also be therapeutic because part of your brain isn't working in the normal sense, it's usually more the right side than the left side. This works if you're not over critical of your work, otherwise it may cause stress. There's days I leave the practice room feeling pretty good. Music lessons also help brain development. That's another ramble.

An indication of how things are different for me since starting medication: I heard one of the songs on my previously posted list on the PA system at a hardware store today. Apart from recognizing it, I wasn't affected by it at all. I don't even think I have heard the song in three months. When I was in the sad moods, I could listen to it and feel like it was taking me over.

Interesting DITL. I think I am fairly stable atm but I still have songs take over me - keep up the good work by the sounds of things!

I just heard two in a row from my sad songs list on Sirius XM 80s Channel. Again, no effect on me like they have on the depression days. When they got to the parts where I could usually expect that feeling of being taken over, it didn't happen. In a way, I miss it. But I don't miss feeling gloomy all day.

You know what I miss is that feeling of music being totally the most amazing thing ever in the world that perfectly described your feelings and experiences which you got as a teenager lol

I listened to some of the sad sounding songs again yesterday for about an hour. First time in a few months, since October I think. I didn't really feel sad but it felt good to listen to the songs.

Glad it was good to listen to them.

I just listened to some Evan Dando and seem to be in one of those moods where music really connects with my soul.

Oh wow, it's like you've stolen my CDs! Cohen, buckley and Cash I love. Cohen I listen to on repeat at certain times when I'm in that frame of mind. His music is just, inexplicable.
Morrisey is also someone I can listen to on repeat no doubt.
