Prescribed neurontin today

Postby Guest » Sat Feb 28, 2004 3:49 am

I have just been diagnosed with Cyclothymia and while it terrifes me to have such a disorder, I am actually handling it rather well. Having the disorder shifts blame for my actions from me SLIGHTLY to this illness. Don't worry, I am not going to use it as an excuse. I am turning 22 next week, and took my first 100mg of Nerontin tonight. AI am working up to 300. Do any of you take this or know of someone who does? It's bizarre to me that the website only speaks of epileptics and seizures. Please help me if you know anything about this. I was on Paxil 20mg but now take 12.5 to go with it. My neck has hurt because of anxiety, and this pill is to help also. We are all in this together. Best of luck.

Hi, welcome to our site. I've never been on Neurontin, but since I've also got cyclothymia I may be able to give you a little insight.

Neurontin may be an antiseizure medication and that's generally what they use to treat mood disorders. I'm currently taking Depakote ER 1500mg at bedtime. Depakote is also a antiseizure med., but it works wonders for me. I still have some mood swings, but not nearly what I did.

I know it's kind of freaky to have a diagnosis like this, but on the other hand it's nice to be able to say, "oh, well that explains a lot". Like you said, I don't use it as an excuse, but if I'm feeling particularly manic one day and then feel like crying the next day at least I understand why.

Also, it's not unusual to be on a combination of meds. I'm on Depakote for the mood swings, Wellbutrin for the depression and Risperdal (antipsychotic) for suicidal ideation.

Hope this was helpful.
