Where To Get Help

Postby CrackedGirl » Mon Mar 19, 2012 1:51 pm

If you need help in the UK there are various options.

For EMERGENCIES ONLY Call 999

During working hours contact your GP, psychiatrist or CPN/Care Coordinator

Out of working hours contact you out of hours GP, the number will be given to you on a voicemail when you phone your GP practice

If you are under a crisis team call the number you have been given by them. Usually you leave a message and they will get back to you.

Some MH trusts use PALS as a source of advice and support overnight, google PALS for your local area.

If you are in crisis call The Samaritans 08457 90 90 90

Please add to this list.

Guys, if you're feeling suicidal or like you are in a bad place and need help and are in school, please talk to a trusted teacher about it. You can also talk to the school counselor.
You could talk to a relative, a close friend too. Any one of these people could help you go to your doctor and your doctor could hopefully help you find a therapist.

When i was last in crisis my friend phoned nhs direct and they contact the crisis team for you. Then i headed to a&e and they were able to tell the on-call psych i was on my way.

For the United States -

If you are in immediate danger to yourself - Call 911. Or head to the nearest ER.

If you're feeling suicidal, these are two national hotlines that will help talk you through it, they are free 24-hour services:

1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433)
1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255)

& Of course - attempt to get in contact with your GP, psychiatrist, psychologist/therapist as soon as possible.

Anyone from the US, feel free to add to this.

- EGD.

In Australia

The emergency number is 000. Or go to Accident and Emergency at your nearest hospital if you are in immediate danger.

You can also contact your GP's office, your psychologist/counsellor/school counsellor.

The two main hotlines are Lifeline, and for people under 18, Kids Help Line
Lifeline: 13 11 14- National 24 hour telephone counselling service for the cost of a local call

Kids Help Line: 1800 551 800- National 24 hour free telephone counselling service for children and young people under the age of 18.

A list of national and state helplines including specific helplines for issues such as domestic violence and rape (among many others) can be found here http://www.aifs.gov.au/nch/pubs/sheets/ ... #australia

Not sure how many Irish people are here, but just in case...

In Ireland:

-During office hours-

GP - You can call reception and ask to speak to your GP, tell them it's an emergency. Most surgeries have a time in the morning that you can turn up without an appointment if you urgently need to see a GP. You can find this out by asking your GP or the receptionist.

Psychiatrist - Most of the time it's difficult to get hold of your psychiatrist right away. However, if you call their secretary, and tell them it's urgent, they'll get your psychiatrist to call you back.

Community psychiatric nurse - If you have a psychiatrist, you may also have a CPN. If you call them and let them know what's going on, they can come out to your house to see you, meet you somewhere, or contact your psychiatrist for you.

If you have a therapist or psychologist, you can also contact them, but if they think you need medical treatment, or psychiatric admission, they will contact your psychiatrist if you have one, or call the emergency services.

-Out of hours-

Emergency GP - You can find out where this is and how to get hold of them either from your GP or by doing a google search.

A&E - Obviously, if you need medical treatment, you should go to A&E. However, even if you haven't self harmed, you can turn up at A&E and ask to speak to a psychiatrist. There's usually one on call at all times.

If you need urgent care, and cannot get yourself to A&E, call an ambulance. You can use either 999 or 112 to contact the emergency services

-Helplines-

Samaritans - 1850 60 90 90. You can also contact your local branch directly. You can find this on http://www.samaritans.org/talk_to_someone/find_my_local_branch/ireland.aspx.

1life Suicide Prevention - 1800 24 7 100 or text HELP to 51444

I hope this helps :)

Re: Alternatives For Cutting

Postby goinUP » Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:45 am

This is a weird alternative and I don't expect it to work for anyone but me, but I'll throw it out there.

Sometimes when I want to cut, I just go to bed. I put my comfy clothes on and bundle up under all my blankets with a stuffed animal. I stay there until it goes away, and I usually fall asleep. It works and it's also helped me be more rested...

I used to cut myself pretty badly, but now I just drag some tweezers across my stomach. The mark goes away after about a week or two completely. I never cut for the sight of blood, it was just a way of getting my negative emotions out through pain.

I have not personally had this issue, but the woman that I love does. I really like these suggestions and I pray that my wife will as well, thank you all for sharing, and starting this post.
