I'm not sure of the legalities of these things, and imagine that they differe from country to country. it is terribly unfortunate that ideologies such as religious ones can be used by some to exert great control over others (as has happened in the church which you are part of). I have no doubt that it was/is a cult, based on what you've written here. You are free from it all now though, right? What happened to you shouldn't define your future life if you have any say in it. I mean, just because you were so repressed growing up in that church doesn't mean that your future has to be repressed in nature. In fact, you muist surely feel a great sense of freedom right now (much more so than others I imagine)?
