Any unconventional coping skills?

Postby LizardLass » Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:59 pm

Alright so I’ve tried pretty much all the mainstream coping skills there is (breathing, yoga, meditation, etc.) and yes they work but it’s become a little too routine for me so if y’all know any unconventional coping skills or do any that would be great. It could be anything. Almost anything, nothing too weird if you catch my drift. Thanks!

Good question. I am comfortable in routines & they work for me. I have noticed what my body does under stress & anxiety and I try to do the opposite.

My breathing is one of the first things that change when I get stressed. It gets tight, rapid & shallow. My chest feels weighted down.
I need to slow the breathing and take deep, measured breaths. Like the Om in Yoga.
I need to stop my racing thoughts & focus on what is in front of me.
If I can manage to bring my mind to a standstill, is when I can genuinely relax.

It is when I can make decisions that need making. It is when my eyes hurt & the tears can flow.
Lying down in a dark, cool, quiet place can bring healing & rest.
It is when I can find refreshing peace & the strength to move forward. :D
