Excellent coping strategies for schizoaffective..

Postby ginalovea » Sat Mar 04, 2017 8:22 pm

I have been schizoaffective for the past 34 years and I now take an effective medication regimen of Risperdal Consta, Geodon, Seroquel, and Celexa to control my symptoms of auditory and visual hallucinations, severe paranoia, depression and mindreading. I am left with residual symptoms of mild paranoia and religious delusions of reference, which I do not mind.

I have developed coping strategies on my own which contribute greatly to my wellness over these last 34 years, all of which I have researched on the internet. One of these is mindfulness meditation, which I do for 15 minutes, twice daily, everyday. Another is a yoga practice, which I do for 20- 40 minutes everyday. But any exercise is good. I also worship God on a daily basis and have an active prayer and volunteer life, which I think is essential to staying well. I believe in pursuing a creative outlet of some type of my choice. I happen to play the piano on a daily basis and write music on occasion. I also believe in getting at least 8- 9 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. Doesn't have to necessarily be at night. I believe in eating healthy food and minimal junk food. I believe in reading good books and magazines every day. I believe in going to all of my Dr. and nurse appointments and taking all of my medications as prescribed. These are just the things that I do on a regular basis to stay as well as I can be.

I am very happy and content and have been for the last 13 years. Even though my son died of suicide at the age of 30, five and a half years ago, I am very content and happy. Despite my diagnosis of schizoaffective. All I know is that these strategies work. You might want to try them.
