So when I was suffering severe psychotic episodes, I couldn't eat or sleep, I couldn't even read. My drawings were weird scribbles that made me anxious so I got no joy out of that, I couldn't watch TV or movies, and yet I could play videogames and complete them without any stress. All I played was super mario or kirby and none of that upset me or made me uncomfortable. I didn't even fumble with the controls or make errors as I would when trying other stuff. I guess because of how simplistic they were and goal oriented there wasn't much complexity to them. They actually seemed to help me when nothing else was working. Anyone have any similar experiences or found something strange that seemed to help when nothing else did?

Video games have always helped me with my mental health issues. For anger: Violent games. For Sadness: racing games. For mania: the latest baseball game (MLB 15 the Show). Whenever I was going through my legal troubles and had thoughts of going on a mass killing spree (which I talked about it with my mental health professionals and I'm all good now), I played Kirby and Mario and all those fun games. I got a Wii U shortly after the legal issues started to come up again back around this time last year, and it's been great fun. I also have a PS4 and a gaming laptop that I do a lot of stuff on. Gaming has always been one of my coping methods, and it is for a lot of people.

Videogames have always been a huge help to me. Even though I've never suffered full-blown psychosis, I've found that during depressive periods they've helped both to give me some escape from myself and make me feel as though I've accomplished something on days where I can't really do anything. I actually read an article once about the effect of videogames on mental health a little while ago. It explained how a game will offer a lot of rewarding feedback (achievements, collectibles, etc) for the player which can reinforce a feeling of positive self worth when they're attained. It's interesting stuff!
Keep on playing~
