She can't stop talking!

Postby Reiz16 » Mon May 26, 2014 3:00 am

My friend's afraid of talking to ppl when she's on the toilet or in the shower, but she tries not to think about it, then it happens! She can't stop talking to GOD/The voice in her head(Inside her head/thinking). Then He gets angry. She says, "No, no,", clears her mind, and has done thought stopping in the past. She considers it disrespectful to sing radio songs, but she makes up her own.

HELP PLEASE!

I'm not sure I fully comprehend what you're saying. Your friend does not like talking while on the toilet, but struggles with talking to herself (her own thoughts) while on the toilet? I'm not following what the radio songs has to do with things? Does she have difficulty with not singing songs to herself as well?

Does she hear the voice IN her head or OUTSIDE of her head?

Forget the radio songs, just give her some coping skills.

If she concentrates hard enough, she can hear the voice inside her head. If she half-concentrates, she puts words in the voice's mouth. If she clears her mind or something, she does better.

It is helpful to know what works well for her.
How about some mindfulness skills then? Visualizing her thoughts and feelings as leaves and flowing down a river floating away. Noticing each one and letting it go.

There is lots of good information from dbtselfhelp.com. Here is their section in mindfulness lessons:

Are you referring to auditory hallucinations or intrusive thoughts?

Auditory hallucinations: you hear actual voices, as in, it feels you are hearing a person talking to you.

Intrusive thoughts: imagined voices IN your head, but not real.

Do you consider these voices to be real? Do they come from a real entity/person?

Have you ever been diagnosed with schizophrenia?

Now that u describe them as so, they ARE more likely intrusive thoughts. I'm not sure what to believe, myself, but my friend (diagnosed schizophrenic) believes it's God. The web pages on mindfullness that Chez2 showed us seem 2 b helping her greatly. U have any ideas?

If it's psychosis related (schizophrenia), medication is required. Is your friend taking any medication?
intrusive thoughts are also common in schizophrenia, usually the mind keeps going on an endless rant. It can feel QUITE active for the person. Like the mind is tuning in several radio stations at once, playing loudly and intrusively.

Intrusive thoughts alone (which would be OCD related) are also helped by medication, if severe enough.

If your friend has been diagnosed schizophrenic, medications are an absolute must. Not only to stop symptoms, but to stop them from getting worse.

I'm afraid therapy or any coping skill can help by much.

Sometimes it just takes time. I was messed up for years and even some psychiatrists gave up on me and then the symptoms got better, slowly, just by themself.

I know it's not great help, but psychiatric problems wouldn't get getter with a lot of pressure. It's important that she eats properly and healthy and gets all the nutritions she needs, goes outside of the house at least once a day and if it's just for a small walk.
